For remote access, a tunnel is set up from your own computer to the gateway. This checks your authorization using the login ID and password. After successful authentication, you will temporarily receive a university IP address that will be used during the session.

#2FA Authentication for University VPN

Liebe Beschäftigte der Universität, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

die Sicherheit unserer universitären IT-Infrastruktur ist immer ein wichtiges Thema. Wir wollen hier einen großen Schritt voran gehen und den VPN-Zugang zum Universitätsnetz um eine Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung erweitern.

Sie benötigen daher künftig neben Ihren Zugangsdaten (Benutzername und Kennwort) auch eine Verifikation über einen zweiten Faktor; dies kann eine TAN-Liste sein oder eine der vielen gängigen Authenticator-APPs auf einem Smartphone.

Bitte registrieren Sie hierfür mindestens ein, höchstens drei weitere Faktoren auf dem neuen eduMFA-Portal der Universität; dieses ist nur aus dem internen Netzwerk und dem lokalen eduroam zugänglich.

Im Anschluss richten Sie sich den eduVPN-Client ein, den es für Windows, Linux und macOS sowie iOS und Android gibt.

Switching VPN access to two-factor authentication

Dear colleagues,

security of our university IT infrastructure is always an important issue. We want to take a big step forward and add two-factor authentication to VPN access to the university network.

In future, you will therefore need to provide verification via a second factor in addition to your login details (username and password); this can be a TAN list or one of the many common authenticator apps on a smartphone.

To do this, please register at least one and no more than three additional factors on the university's new eduMFA portal; this is only accessible from the internal network and the local eduroam.

Then set up the eduVPN client, which is available for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS and Android.
